2012: Isn’t It All About Andy?

TRANSLATION of Putting People First

Last Updated on Monday, 19 March 2012 11:33 Written by harris Monday, 19 March 2012 10:12

“Putting People First” was touted as a mission statement of Governor Cuomo and his questionable appointee, Commissioner Burke and her feenies.  Apparently it doesn’t mean what we thought it did.  A more accurate translation would be “It’s all about the money.  Let’s put people first as the first thing to cut to serve the political goals.”  And make no mistake, it is all about 2014.  Now is it starting to make sense?

Here is a letter from Governor Cuomo, bragging about his “historic reforms”.  There actually isn’t much historic about riding in on the backs of the people who will suffer as a result.  That’s usually called government abuse of power.  We’ve colored in red the part we especially noticed:

Dear Friend,

Yesterday was a great day for New York. The Legislature passed a package of bills that were a key part of Governor Cuomo’s historic reform efforts.

These bills will change the face of our state for decades to come and continue to deliver on Governor Cuomo’s promise to build a new New York.

Reforms included:

An overhaul of our New York State pension system. Our pension system’s skyrocketing costs have been crippling local governments and driving up taxes. The Governor’s reforms will save the state and local governments over $80 billion over the next 30 years and help protect vital services;

A constitutional amendment and legal statute that will permanently reform our state’s redistricting system and put an end to partisan gerrymandering;

A bill making New York the first state in the nation to require collection of DNA from individuals convicted of all crimes in our state. Until now, DNA was collected from only 48% of those convicted of crimes in spite of its proven power as a crime fighting tool. This new law will help to prevent and solve crimes, and to better exonerate the innocent.

A new teacher evaluation system that makes our state a national leader in education reform. The new system will help improve student achievement and school accountability.

The first passage of a casino gaming amendment, that if eventually ratified in a statewide vote by the people, will bring better regulation to gaming in New York as well as create tens of thousands of jobs and increase tourism throughout the state.

We achieved this legislation by working together, but most importantly, by putting the people first. Change is never easy, but with the support of the people, it is possible.

As always, thank you for your continued support.
