2012: Patience, Petitions and PotLuck

July 10, 2012 at 7:00 PM–Meeting held for local residents to give their input and ask questions. Attendees asked:  “WHAT IS HAPPENING?  AND WHY AREN’T WE BEING TOLD?”   Vine Valley Community Center discussion was held regarding a need to petition for new information.  We planned to petition to those who have helped us the most, Senator O’Mara and Assemblyman Palmesano, so that they have evidence to show of our continued interest and concern.  The response to our petitions to Governor Cuomo and to Commissioner Burke resulted in more community questions than answers.  Senator O’Mara and Assemblyman Palmesano have helped us the most.

So, a PETITION was developed and we had just begun to collect signatures by email, regular mail and on-line; however, given the opportunity to have a further meeting with our representatives, we decided to put the petition on temporary hold until we learn more, including obtaining further FOIL results, and further discussion at our biweekly Concerns meeting, every other Tuesday at the Vine Valley Community Center.  Next meeting is August 7th at 7PM.   In the meantime, work continues and more information is needed and will be discussed at upcoming meetings for further community input.

Saturday, June 30th, there was a Vine Valley Pot Luck dinner at the Community House, and discussion of issues of concern as we welcomed back the summer residents.  In addition to hydrofracking discussions, there was an opportunity to sign yet more petitions against what Gov. Cuomo and Courtney Burke are threatening to do to our community. We have petitioned, we have tried, we have communicated, and we have waited.  We are losing patience.

We are discussing the possibility of a major media campaign and other strategies to draw attention to our plight, and what we need to do to have our voices and concerns fairly heard.

Please come out, bring a dish to pass and be ready to discuss and sign and help!
